Our interior design division, Design Base, was established in January 2000 and is a winning combination of experience and a young, multi-talented team with fresh ideas. We have the confidence to evolve these ideas into functional, aesthetically pleasing and commercially viable projects.

We employ a staff of extremely talented professionals, led by a core team of seven partners with extensive local and international experience. Each project is co-ordinated and managed by one of the firm’s partners, so we make quick decisions to ensure that our high standards are met. We deliver thoughtful, original and contemporary architecture and we make this happen through our intensive collaboration with clients and consultants. After all, it is our work that sets us apart.

MDS Architecture has a proud history, not only as one of the oldest architectural firms in South Africa, but as one renowned for design excellence since 1954.

Originally Gluckman and De Beer when it was first established, the practice has always been at the forefront of architectural trends. From the earliest days, the practice earned an enviable reputation for its ability to satisfy all aspects of a multitude of different clients’ requirements. This reputation was, and still is, based on professional and commercial expertise combined in a variety of related disciplines, together with a commitment to design excellence and client service.

The ability to interpret the requirements of a client accurately has led to enduring relationships with developers and financial institutions for whom buildings need to be functional, aesthetically pleasing and commercially viable. As a result, MDS Architecture has repeatedly been invited to refurbish and extend some of its landmark buildings, including Sandton City and Eastgate Shopping Centre.

The firm’s portfolio spans regional commercial buildings, mixed use developments, residential buildings, regional and neighbourhood shopping centres and casino/entertainment and hotel resorts, both in South Africa and abroad.
